Mario Tozzi (1895 - 1979)
From 1913 Tozzi was a student at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, where he was taught by the Italian painters Augusto Majani and Aleardo Terzi. His fellow students included Giorgio Morandi and Osvaldo Licini. In 1919, after fighting at the front during World War I, he married a French woman and moved to Paris. In 1922 he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and in 1923 at the Salon des Indépendants. He appears at this date to have been fully integrated in the Parisian art world and in particular with the group that met at the Café du Dome, which included Massimo Campigli, Alberto Giacometti, Amédée Ozenfant, Le Corbusier, Alberto Magnelli, Ossip Zadkine, Max Jacob and Leonor Fini.
