It should probably be noted that this is after a panel by Rembrandt of the same name, hanging at the Louvre.

This is a painting based on a print of a now lost Jean-Leon Gerome painting. When the Gerome exhibit was at the Getty museum in LA last year, they had an entire wall of the exhibit dedicated to knock-offs of this painting -- it was apparently quite influential in its day!
