Artists and Their Art

Whenever the greatest artists of all times are counted, Leonardo da Vinci is the first name that comes to one\’s mind. He was one of the greatest artists, philosopher, and thinker. Born in 1452, he is the creator of the masterpieces “Mona Lisa” and “The Last Supper”. He was a very learned man and studied everything from anatomy to astronomy.  He was one of the biggest faces of art in the Renaissance period and left a big mark on the society. He died in the year 1519.

Picasso is yet another big name in the Renaissance art scene. He was born in Spain and was a painter, sculptor, and a poet. He had a knack for painting beautiful pictures ever since his childhood and started displaying his art when he was fourteen. Later he moved to Paris where he became very famous. Picasso is said to be the discoverer of cubism which involved capturing the essence of the subject on the canvas but exaggerating a few things about it.

One of his most famous paintings was the mural at the Guernica bombing in 1937. The other masterpieces by him are Girl Before A Mirror, A weeping Woman, The Old Guitarist amongst others. Picasso was driven by emotions and most of his paintings are inspired by them.

Raphael was an Italian Painter and Architect who was born in 1483. He began painting with Madonna and later painted the Stanza Della Segnatura which is the room of the Signatura located in the Vatican Palace. He was also a successful architect and he created the design for the Sant\’eligio degli Orefici Chapel. In addition to this, he designed palaces. His work is largely appreciated for the clarity of form and the ease of composition. He is considered one of the three masters of the period, the other two being Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. He died at a very young age of thirty-seven, yet there is an enormous amount of art and architecture he has left behind. Some of his most famous works are The Marriage of the Virgin, Saint George and the Dragon, La Donna Velata, The Triumph of Galatea, Transfiguration, and School of Athens.

Paul Cezanne was born in France in the year 1839 and was a post-impressionist painter. His work is said to have formed a bridge in between the 19th century Impressionism and the 20th century Cubism. He was a great influence in the lives of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. He has left behind a legacy of paintings that range from impressionism to the 20th-century modern art. He usually used short brush strokes to create a uniformity in his paintings. Some of his very famous works are The Card Player, The Basket Of Apples, The Bathers, Curtain, Jug and Fruit, Boy in Red Waistcoat and many others.

Michelangelo was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet of the Renaissance period. He is one of the most known artists in today\’s time and has been an inspiration for many artists around the world. He was born in the year 1475 and his father wanted him to be an artist ever since he was a child. At a small age of thirteen, he started working under Domenico Ghirlandaio who was the leading Fresco painter at that time. People were awed by his works and thus he received wide appreciation. Some of his greatest works are Doni Tondo, The Entombment, Manchester Madonna, Battle of Cascina and The Crucifixion of St Peter.

Rembrandt was a Dutch master and one of the greatest painters of all times. He is also called the greatest visual artist in the history of Dutch and the world art.  He was born in 1606 in Leiden, Netherlands. His work mainly included biblical scenes and self – portraits. He used special lightings and shadow techniques to make his portraits come out perfectly. Some of his greatest works are The Night Watch, The Anatomy Lesson, Syndics of the Drapers’ Guild including others.
